Bee mortality: the use of fipronil was already tightened in Hungary
The National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) – as a pesticide licensing authority – tightened the use of fipronil because of its danger on bees and from 31 August 2008 banned it as a spray on plants – the Ministry of Rural Development (VM) told MTI.
According to the information, the European Commission requested the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the EU Member States to review the licence of neonicotinoid and fipronil, and their role in bee mortality. The EFSA has published the review report on fipronil on 27 May this year, in which the authority drews attention on threats, that are similar to neonicotinoids. (MTI)
