World’s food production will collapse without bees
Mysterious disease decimated the bees in western Europe. The professionals have not yet found an explanation for the mysterious depopulation of the bee families, but the process in long terms, can jeopardize the economy of the entire continent.
One third of world food production depends on bees. In Central Europe, eighty percent of the crops are pollened by them, while only in the European Union, the value produced by bees exceeds 22 billion euros annually, so after cattle and pigs, bees are the third most important farm animals. Since 2004, the U.S. bee population has halved, while the disease arrived to Europe in 2006. In Hungary, contrary to the European numbers, the rate of bee decay is acceptable, ranges betwen five to ten percent – reports vallalkozoinegyed.hu.
