The vegetation cycle of the plants was disturbed by the permanently mild weather
In the Great Plain, there is still water on the fields in a large area, but in colder, mostly dry, often windy weather than before, the inland water spots are slowly starting to decrease, the National Meteorological Service wrote in its agrometeorological analysis published on Thursday.
According to the summary published on their website, since the beginning of last week, 50-90 millimeters of precipitation has fallen in a large area in the southwest-northeast of the country, in the area of Miskolc last week alone, as much as in the first four months of last year.
The last 30 and the last 90 days were more rainy than the long-term average across the country
The only exception to this is the area of Sopron, where, due to topographical reasons, only little precipitation falls from the moist air coming from the southwest. The temperature dropped by several degrees in the second half of last week, but was still above the usual values at this time. The autumn sowings are typically in good condition, although in the Great Plain, the sowings are covered with water in large spots, which is especially harmful in addition to the high average daily temperatures of the past period, exceeding 4 degrees, they wrote. They added that the persistently mild weather did not benefit the plants even without internal water, it disturbed their vegetation cycle, and moreover, in the absence of cold, pests and pathogens did not become rare. Due to the too mild weather, the flowering of hazelnuts has already started in the northeastern part of the country.
According to the analysis, colder, mostly dry, often windy weather is likely to continue, so the inland water spots will slowly begin to decrease. No significant precipitation is expected. At night until Monday, the air will cool below freezing throughout the country, but there is no need to expect severe frosts, values between minus 1 and minus 5 degrees will be typical, and during the day the temperature will rise between 0 and plus 5 degrees. The weather will warm up slightly from Tuesday.
