The head of the ministry explained that the danger of bringing swine fever into the southern tip of our country from Croatia is increasing. That is why the Hungarian animal health authority continues to maintain strengthened epidemic prevention measures in order to minimize the risk of introducing the disease. Due to the worsening infection data, it is important that pig farmers in the medium-risk southern counties comply with the priority epidemic prevention measures, he added.
The minister also drew attention to the fact that strict regulations must be observed in slaughterhouses receiving pigs from Croatia and in the case of all shipments arriving for further storage
As examples, he mentioned the comprehensive inspection of documents, a thorough clinical examination confirmed by thermometers, the post-mortem examination of dead pigs and the strengthening of the epidemic prevention control of pig farms. He emphasized that particular attention must be paid to the fulfillment of health conditions in connection with the development of livestock farms. Farmers have to meet very strict standards. An outstanding animal health result of recent years is that the Hungarian domestic pig population has been protected from the disease. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to ensure that this remains the case, added István Nagy.
