Wine and liquor consumption increased in the Czech Republic
The ban on spirits with 20 percent higher alcohol content was resulted in an increase in wine, champagne and liquor consumption in the Czech Republic in September. In beer consumption no significant changes occurred shows the survey of Nielsen published on Friday.
Because of the Methyl alcohol poisonings, the Czech government prohibited the marketing of spirits on 14 September and the decision was in effect for two weeks.
During the time of the ban, spirits sales decreased by more than 40 percent, in the large chain of stores, compared to the datas of a month before.
However, wine sales increased by more than 40 percent, while the consumption of various sparkling wines and champagnes increased by 39 percent. (Kokes János, MTI)
