Retail sales in Germany jumped in May
The German federal statistical office, Destatis, reported that retail sales in Germany increased by 13.9 percent in real terms in May after a 6.5 percent decline in April, with a calendar and seasonal adjustment from the previous month.
Analysts expected a much smaller monthly increase of 3.9 percent.
Retail sales rose 3.8 percent from a year earlier after a 6.4 percent drop in April.
Analysts expected a 3.5 percent annual decline in May. (MTI)
