Europeans’ desire to travel increases: Travel trends for the fall and winter season of 2024
According to the latest research by the European Travel Commission (ETC), there is a significant increase in Europeans’ willingness to travel between October 2024 and March 2025. According to the data, 73% of Europeans plan to travel during this period, which shows a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Bigger budget, less worries
European travelers are becoming less concerned about travel costs. According to the research, only 19% of respondents indicated that travel costs were a concern, which is a decrease of 3% compared to the previous year. Regarding the travel budget, 27% of the respondents calculate an amount between 500-1000 euros per person, while 26% plan to spend 1500-2500 euros.
However, the fear of the financial situation is still on the list of concerns: 15% of respondents expressed concerns about this. In addition, the Russian-Ukrainian war and tensions in the Middle East were also mentioned, while labor shortages and overcrowded destinations caused concern in 9% of respondents.
Safety is the primary concern
Safety is the most important factor for 18% of Europeans when choosing a holiday destination, followed by stable weather and demand for special offers. A friendly, hospitable environment is also a key aspect during planning.
The largest proportion of travelers plan to travel from the United Kingdom: 84% of respondents said so, which represents a 10% increase compared to the previous year. Germany and France are also highly represented among those who want to travel.
Young people are driving the travel boom
According to the research, the desire to travel is increasing in all age groups, but the greatest increase can be seen among young people. 75% of the 25-34-year-olds plan to travel, which means a 9% increase compared to the previous year. Interest is also significant among 18-24-year-olds and 35-44-year-olds, 64% of the younger group and 78% of the middle-aged group are planning their trip.
The activity among older travelers is also noteworthy: 75% of those over 55 plan to travel, 45% of them plan to stay longer than seven nights, and they are particularly interested in cultural, heritage and natural experiences.
