Tesco Calls For Ban On Sale Of Cheap Alcohol
Tesco has called for the Government to introduce new laws to ban the sale of cut-price alcohol amid growing concern over the levels of binge drinking.
Tesco's chief executive, is said to
have already held a private meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown
to discuss measures, including price controls, to tackle anti-social
and under-age drinking. Supermarkets have been heavily criticised for
selling cut-price alcohol – often below cost – as a 'loss leader'.
Tesco was recently found to be selling cans of lager for less than
the price of bottled water.
