Consumers were deceived about the effects of Norbi Update products, GVH fined the company HUF 40 million
According to the investigation of the Economic Competition Office (GVH), the distributor of Norbi Update products deceived consumers in several ways, the office fined the company HUF 40 million, the GVH told MTI.
According to the statement, among other things, the company misled consumers regarding the effects and composition of the products and the effectiveness of the diets. The company cooperated with the authority and admitted the violation, which was taken into account when determining the fine.
The investigation revealed that the videos published on the social media site of the distributor, aimed at promoting the Norbi Update lifestyle system and Update products, were considered unfair to consumers in several aspects. GVH experts examined 280 video posts over a period of one year, and came to the conclusion that they may have misled consumers regarding the composition and effects of the products, the company’s market position and, in the case of one product, its marketability.
The videos unfoundedly advertised the Update products with health-affecting properties, prevention and treatment of diseases (for example, “diabetes goes away, high blood pressure goes away”). Deceptive health-related claims also violated the EU regulations on food advertising – pointed out the GVH.
