This year’s Carpathian Basin Wheat Pooling Ceremony of the Hungarians’ Bread program was held
The Carpathian Basin Wheat Pooling Ceremony of the Hungarians’ Bread – 15 million wheat grains program was held on Friday in Edelény. At the event, László Kövér, the Speaker of the National Assembly, highlighted that the merged wheat grains are used to celebrate the renewing Hungarian vitality.

In the history of humanity, wheat has been a renewable source of life for about ten thousand years, and in the life of Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin for more than a thousand years – emphasized László Kövér, adding that Hungarian farmers have always been more than economic actors today and in the past millennium, as they turn their native land into fertile land. With their sacrificial work, farmers renew “the life contract that binds Hungarians to the Carpathian Basin” year after year, in good times and bad, he added. According to the Speaker, the reason for this is the European Commission, the EU leadership “has been gradually held hostage by private power interests outside Europe since 2014”. As he put it, this is why the EU “is being distorted before our eyes, that is, from the promise of peace, democracy and prosperity it is becoming a reality of war, dictatorship and impoverishment”. According to László Kövér, these private power interests aim to ensure that the EU and all its member states completely lose their intellectual, financial, economic and ultimately political sovereignty, preferably before 2030. The Speaker stressed that the basis of Europe’s intellectual independence is the diversity of national cultures rooted in Christianity, “which is why the de-Christianization and de-nationalization of our continent’s culture is growing”. By putting the EU and its member states in debt, they want to weaken Europe’s financial independence, while by “cutting down industry and withering away agriculture” they would eliminate the continent’s financial independence, he added. According to him, the Hungarian saying that “brightness can come from gloom”, may be true for the EU, but this will only be the case if Europeans and Hungarians work for it. If the “European camp of common sense” can transform from a social majority into a political majority in every member state through democratic elections, the European Union can be returned to the people of Europe again, he emphasized. The Speaker of the House said that Hungarians can help in this by always strengthening and protecting “the majority of common sense in Hungarian politics” with their votes. The Hungarian government has represented this majority since 2010, and as long as there is a national government in Hungary, the Hungarian state will protect the interests of Hungarian farmers under all circumstances, he stressed.
The Bread of the Hungarians is more than just practical help
In her welcoming speech, Zsófia Koncz, the State Secretary for Families, spoke, among other things, about the fact that the Bread of the Hungarians is more than just practical help, because – as she said – it also expresses national unity and solidarity. According to her, bread on the table of Hungarians symbolizes hard work, security, family unity, and at the end of the day, life. She also mentioned that Europe’s largest tax reduction program, “a real family tax revolution”, is currently underway in Hungary. She said that half a million mothers will be exempt from personal income tax from 2026, and one million from 2029, the family tax allowance will double, and the Hungarian government is constantly looking for opportunities to help families. András Tállai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasized in his speech that the event in Edelény symbolizes national cohesion, the honor of work, and the commitment and duty to help the poor and needy. He said that since its launch, the Bread of the Hungarians has become an uplifting series of programs that, in addition to helping those in need, also means preserving traditions, cooperation, and educating future generations. He emphasized that no matter what challenges the farmers faced, they still undertook and continue to undertake the work, the result of which ensures food supply.
Selfless help
In his welcoming speech, Zsolt György Papp, President of the National Chamber of Agriculture, said that the participants of the initiative were called to the task by, among other things, respect, perseverance, and cross-border responsibility. In the program, people help each other selflessly, and although there are challenges, we must find solutions to them together, he added. István Jakab, Vice President of the Parliament and President of the Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Cooperatives and Farmers’ Cooperatives (MAGOSZ), emphasized that the Bread of the Hungarians program came from the souls of Hungarian farmers. The 10 tons of grain collected in the first year had increased to 1,100 tons by last year, and the initiative is a common celebration for all Hungarians, wherever they live in the world. József Taskó, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County President of the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), said in his toast that every crumb of Hungarian bread carries the nation’s common past, the commitment of the present, and the hope of the future. The event in Edelény was also addressed by Boglárka Bánné Gál, the president of the county assembly, Miklós Nagy, the president of the Vojvodina Agricultural Associations Association, and Ildikó Pataki, the regional president of the Hungarian Diaspora Council USA. The Bread of Hungarians – 15 million grains of wheat program was launched in 2010 with the aim of the participating farmers helping those in need by offering their crops. At the event on Friday, the participants symbolically poured wheat into a bowl, symbolizing the unity of Hungarians in the motherland, abroad, and in the diaspora.
