Ryanair is abolishing airport check-in and paper-based boarding passes
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has announced that from May 2024, the airline will completely eliminate airport check-in and paper-based boarding passes.
The low-cost airline will only accept digital check-in, which passengers can complete via the Ryanair website or mobile app before arriving at the airport. The application supports travelers with functions such as notifications about gate changes or flight delays.
Although O’Leary emphasized that the application provides reliable and extensive information, he did not clarify what will happen to passengers who do not have a smartphone. 60% of passengers already use Ryanair’s application, and the CEO aims to increase this proportion to 80% by the end of the year, thereby preparing the transition to a fully digital system.
