OKSZ has spoken out regarding the extension of the margin freeze
Viktor Orbán announced the extension of the margin freeze. The National Trade Association has drawn attention to the eroding and dispersing effect of margin regulation on the economy on several occasions.
Inflation is not caused by retail margins; the problem could be addressed by reducing supplier prices (mainly the costs of producers and processors). The one-time inflation-reducing effect of the retail margin freeze is gradually fading, but its negative effects are becoming more severe. By making the population uncertain, the measure is contributing unfavourably to the curbing of household consumption, and its other negative consequences cause serious damage even if consumers do not yet directly perceive this – says Tamás Kozák, Secretary General of the National Trade Association.
