Consum Opens 1,000th Store In Spain
Spanish grocery cooperative Consum has reached a milestone of 1,000 stores with the opening of two new supermarkets in Aldaia and Xàtiva.
This achievement, which includes 506 Consum-owned stores and 494 Charter franchises, coincides with the Cooperative’s 50th anniversary, ESM reports.
The new stores, formerly operating as Economy Cash and Vidal, are part of a nine-store acquisition from Kuups Design International.
With this expansion, Consum now operates 352 stores in the Valencian Community – 195 under the Consum banner and 157 Charter outlets.
The Aldaia location, which operated as Economy Cash, spanning over 1,100 square metres and 57 parking spaces, marks Consum’s fifth supermarket in the town.
The Xàtiva store, formerly trading as Vidal, boasting over 1,300 square metres, is Consum’s third establishment in the city.
Both stores offer a wide assortment of fresh products with personalised service at the fishmonger, delicatessen, and butcher shops, as well as bulk fruit and vegetable sections, bakery, perfumery, and pet sections, as well as exclusive Consum brands.
Expansion
So far this year, six of the nine supermarkets acquired last year – Massanassa, Sueca, Torrevieja, Caravaca de la Cruz, Aldaia, and Xàtiva – have already opened their doors under the Consum brand, in addition to the stores in Mataró, Barcelona, and Albox, Almería.
Consum plans to expand further this year by adding 18 more stores across Spain, including seven in the Valencian Community, six in Catalonia, three in the Region of Murcia, and two in Andalusia.
The Valencian supermarket cooperative ended its 2024 financial year with a turnover of €4.7 billion – a 7.3% increase compared to 2023 – and profit growth of 7.5% to €108.7 million.
