Aldi enters the Polish market
The German discounter Aldi, opened its first seven stores in Poland on 25 February. The network’s discounts are located in Poznan, Jelenia Gora, Sulechow, Glogow, Zory, Brzeg and Tarnowskie Gory.
The main strategy with which the
company intends to attract Polish customers and concurrently knock
out the competition is low prices. The chain prepared up to 30%
discounts for the opening. However, the main competitors of Aldi in
Poland: Biedronka, Lidl and Netto still have a marked
advantage over the German network in terms of the number of shops
operating in the country. Biedronka owns more than 1000 stores in
Poland (and about 210 outlets of Plus, if the UOKiK approves the
takeover), Lidl – about 300 and Netto -137.
Currently Aldi runs over 6,500 stores
throughout Europe. Its sales exceed $50bn.
