Aldi Nord has opened its 5,555th store, marking a new milestone as it strengthens its European footprint.

The new store, located in Mijas, Spain, is also the discounter’s 500th store in the country.

With 15 employees, the outlet spans 1,200 square metres and features a structured assortment designed to ensure a seamless shopping experience.

Last year, Aldi Nord launched 100 new stores and renovated 200 outlets.

The discounter noted that Spain is one of its growth markets with over eight million households shopping at Aldi regularly.

Valentin Lumbreras, CEO of Aldi Spain, stated, “Reaching the milestone of 500 stores in Spain while also opening the 5,555th store of our group makes us very proud.

“Both achievements show how well our discount model resonates with customers and what we can accomplish together as a group.”

The discounter has also seen positive momentum in the other countries where it operates.

Its market share has increased recently in all regions, it noted.

“The discount model is more relevant than ever. People want clarity, proximity and good value for money – and that is exactly what Aldi Nord has stood for over decades,” said Florian Scholbeck, company spokesperson for the Aldi Nord Group.

Aldi Nord will continue to expand its network and plans to add 40 new stores to its network in 2026.

Recently, the discounter named Lars Kürten as the chief executive officer of its German operations, effective 1 April 2026.

Kürten will succeed Felix Rottmann, who has also served as a member of Aldi Nord’s executive board since November 2025.
