Villa Esterházy opened: Péter Esterházy’s former home has become a literary creative house
According to the press release of Market Építő Zrt., the renovated home of Péter Esterházy in Római Bürgy was ceremonially handed over on the Hungarian Culture Day, which will operate as a literary creative house in the future under the management of the Friends of Hungarian Literature Creative House (MIBA) Foundation.
The project was initiated by Miklós Vámos, the property was purchased by the Óbuda-Békásmegyer municipality, and the renovation was led by Market Építő Zrt., with the social donations of 50 construction companies. The plans were prepared pro bono by Ybl Prize-winning architect Levente Szabó and the Seventh Studio.
According to the press release, the dilapidated building, which had been vacant for six years, underwent a complete roof replacement, facade renovation, complete electrical network replacement, insulation and mechanical modernization, as well as interior restoration and landscaping. The villa is planned to host literary translators and foreign authors, and literary evenings and book presentations will be held on the ground floor, while Esterházy’s study can function as a memorial site that can be visited.
