Carrefour opens first store in Bulgaria
With a sales area of 8,300 square metres, the store offers over 50,000 SKUs, including 3,500 Carrefour own-branded products.
Carrefour opened its first store in
Bulgaria on 25 March in Burgas Plaza Mall in the Black Sea city of
Burgas. Carrefour will work with more than 700 suppliers, most of
which are Bulgarian companies. "The concept of Carrefour is to
develop partnerships with small and medium-size enterprises from the
hosting countries and to work with local suppliers in order to boost
local economy. Carrefour is already here because the Bulgarian market
is ready for the concept of modern retail,” said Jean Anthoine,
Executive Director of Carrefour Bulgaria. Reportedly, as soon as
Carrefour opened its doors yesterday, a price war kicked off all
through Bourgas. The low prices at Carrefour were quickly noticed and
other retailers such as Billa and Kaufland dropped prices on a
variety of products immediately.
