The 25th Regional Gardening and Food Industry Exhibition has opened in Kecskemét
Hungarian agriculture is able to supply the population with high-quality Hungarian food with the cooperation of agriculture that produces excellent raw materials and the developing food industry that increases its competitiveness, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy on Tuesday in Kecskemét.
The head of the agricultural ministry said at the opening of the 25th Regional Horticultural and Food Industry Exhibition: consumers are more and more consciously looking for domestic foods, which is why it is important to draw attention to these products, one of the good tools for this is the use of trademarks.
The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that the proportion of domestic products in consumption is 20 percentage points higher than the European Union average. In the case of some products, such as fresh meat, the coverage is almost perfect, but in the case of cheeses and dairy desserts, the value is low, which can be increased with targeted calls for tenders, social marketing tools, educating consumers, and promoting domestic brands.
István Nagy emphasized that the achievable effect “should not be underestimated”, since a 5 percentage point increase in the proportion of domestic products in retail chains and consumption provides domestic producers and suppliers with the opportunity to expand by HUF 130 billion annually.
