Surprising ordering statistics: foodora sampled the ordering habits of Hungarians in 2025
Hamburgers, pizza and sushi lead this year’s order statistics at foodora. Most people reach for their phones at home on Fridays to order food, and there was one who did so 623 times. foodora This year too, it provides insight into Hungarian and European trends and shows what went into the pink thermal bags in 2025. It also turned out that the fastest delivery was made by a Hungarian courier this year, taking only 1 minute. The largest order was worth nearly 900 thousand forints and was placed by a Swedish user.
Foodora’s fresh data analysis “2025 in a Nutshell” has arrived in every user’s account, where they can track how their year turned out in terms of ordering. The aggregated data shows that in Hungary – uniquely in Europe – Friday has become the day for ordering food, when most people use the foodora application, with American, Italian and Asian cuisines in the lead. The menu is most often a cheeseburger with a large portion of fries, margherita or salami pizza and the indispensable sour cream dipping sauce, with almost anything.
Hungarian becomes Europe’s fastest courier
At the beginning of the year, alcohol and pizza were among the very first orders, while the very first order did not have to wait long, at 00:04:18, a meat lover’s pizza was ordered from Pécs. This year’s fastest delivery also took place in Hungary, in one minute and one second. The incredible record was achieved by a courier from a McDonald’s restaurant in Miskolc.
The most loyal Hungarian foodora PRO subscriber placed 623 orders during the year. Foodora PRO is a loyalty program that offers benefits such as free delivery and exclusive discounts for a monthly fee. In addition to various hot dishes, Hungarians also ordered other products to their homes: bananas, milk, energy drinks, Kaiser rolls and mineral water were particularly popular in 2025. In Hungary, the demand for fresh products was also higher than the European average: foodora users diligently ordered baked goods, fruit, vegetables and meat.
Europe wants hamburgers, pizza and sushi
Looking at the data from foodora countries, it is clear that the most popular dishes across Europe were American cuisine (e.g. hamburgers), Italian cuisine (e.g. pizza) and Asian cuisine (e.g. sushi, pho). In contrast to the strong growth in 2024, the increase in salad orders slowed down this year, at 13 percent, compared to last year’s 76 percent increase. Foodora data clearly shows that Hungarians are open to experimentation. This year, they have tried an average of 4.5 new restaurants, in contrast to Finland, where an average person tries only three new restaurants.
Europe’s largest individual order came to a MAX restaurant in Sweden and amounted to 2,265 euros, or nearly 900,000 forints. As is the case every year, people associate orders with the colder months and more time spent at home, so couriers ring the bell most often in October, November and January.
Everyday items with home delivery: beer, shampoo and condoms with one click
In foodora countries, the most important fast-food items include basic foodstuffs such as dairy products, eggs, fruit and vegetables. Foodora is also trusted throughout Europe in the personal care sector, with shampoo being the most popular product in this category. Roses took the crown again this year in the flower delivery sector. And in the evenings, condom and beer orders increase regardless of the country.
