Melon exports started in Eastern Hungary
Melon exports have started from the East-Hungarian region. The region's largest exporter company, the Nyíregyháza-based Rádium Kft. has shipped about 50 trucks of melons to the Northern European countries until now.
Für László, the company's managing director told MTI on Monday, that the the first shipments were launched from Békés and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties, because in Hajdú-Bihar and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties, ripening is not in a state for harvesting.
Poland remains the largest customer, for East-Hungarian melon but to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Baltic States, as well as smaller quantities to Germany will also be transported. According to Für László, the export season started with a good purchase price: 40-50 HUF per kg. (MTI)
