Sunflower harvesting begins in Zala county
At the beginning of September, the harvesting of sunflowers produced on 9,000 hectares will begin in the Zala county, the county president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy (NAK) told MTI.
Thanks to the plenty of sunshine, the stock is developing nicely, the farmers expect an average yield of 3-3.5 tons of sunflowers per hectare – informed Krisztián Sabján. The weather was also favorable for corn. According to crop estimates, the average yield in the 30,000-hectare area is expected to be 7-11 tons, he added.
The grain crops and rapeseed have already gone into granaries
At the moment, a large amount of produce is stored in the warehouses, which may cause problems after the harvest of sunflowers, soybeans and corn – Krisztián Sabján indicated. The yield averages also differed within the county. The lowest yield per hectare of the 12,000-hectare autumn cabbage-rape was 2.5 tons, while the highest was 3.8 tons. An average of 4-6 tons of spring barley was harvested per hectare, while an average of 4 to 6.5 tons of wheat was harvested on the 31,000-hectare sowing area.
Due to the large amount of rainfall in July, the quality of the grain deteriorated
85 percent of the wheat is feed quality, 10 percent is mill quality, and 5 percent is of euro quality – explained the county president of NAK. In summary, he said, the farmers had finished clearing the stubble and soil work had begun in the area. Autumn canola is expected to be sown in the first half of September.
