New bee welfare support scheme launched
A new call for applications to develop the ecosystem service capacity of bee colonies has been launched within the framework of the CAP Strategic Plan. Applications for the doubled support, now worth EUR 30 per bee colony per year, will be open from January 27, 2025 to March 13, 2025, announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture.

The importance of the beekeeping sector goes beyond itself, as honey can be imported, but pollination cannot. Due to the role of bees in pollination and the difficult situation of farmers who keep them due to the fake honey flooding the EU agricultural markets, the Ministry of Agriculture is seizing every opportunity to help the work of Hungarian beekeepers when planning the use of EU agricultural subsidies. This is also the purpose of the call for proposals entitled “Animal Welfare Support in the Beekeeping Sector”, which is being implemented with European Union co-financing. The measure is essentially a continuation of the support measure previously available as part of the Rural Development Programme, which helps to preserve the health and vitality of bee colonies by complying with the obligation to leave 4 kg of honey per bee colony – explained the Minister. István Nagy highlighted that, within the framework of the support scheme – during the 5-year commitment period starting on 1 January 2025 – beekeepers can receive a non-refundable support of 30 euros per bee colony per year.
