Animal welfare support for the small ruminant sector has been published
The Ministry of Agriculture has announced its new call for applications aimed at improving the animal welfare conditions of domestic small ruminant herds within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (CAP ST).
Applications for support will be open from January 20, 2025 to February 20, 2025. For many years, the Ministry of Agriculture has been consciously increasing the number of support schemes related to animal husbandry that represent higher added value and the size of the financial resources associated with them. The call for proposals with the code KAP-RD29-1-24, entitled “Animal welfare support in the small ruminant sector”, co-financed by the European Union – which is already being established within the framework of the new CAP Strategic Plan – is essentially a continuation of the support measure previously available as part of the Rural Development Programme.
The current call continues to promote the improvement of the housing, feeding and hygiene conditions of sheep and goat herds by complying with four obligations
These are technology-based nail care, control of internal parasite (endoparasite) infections and professional protection against them, protection against external parasites (ectoparasites), with particular regard to the protection against flies, mosquitoes and midges, and the use of mineral supplements. Under the support scheme, farmers can receive a non-refundable subsidy of EUR 215.18 per animal unit per year during the 5-year commitment period starting on 1 January 2025.
