More than 9,000 billion forints – this is how much wealth the fifty richest people in Hungary own, according to the latest Forbes list. The gap in the top ranks has widened further, with new self-made billionaires and significant changes in positions in addition to the wealth record holder Lőrinc Mészáros.

According to the 2025 list, Lőrinc Mészáros has been leading the ranking for the third year in a row, this time with an estimated wealth of 1,749.1 billion forints. Thanks to Opus Global’s energy portfolio and the results of MBH Bank, the businessman from Felcsút’s wealth has increased by 500 billion forints in a single year. According to Forbes, he is trying to stabilize his empire with foreign acquisitions and diversification.

Tibor Veres, owner of the Wallis Group and Dayton Invest, came in second place, ahead of Sándor Csányi, chairman and CEO of OTP Bank. According to the newspaper, Veres’s nearly 300 billion increase in wealth is due to the group’s outstanding 2024 results.

Gellért Jászai, CEO of 4iG Plc., entered the top list for the first time, after the listed company’s share price rose by 244 percent in one year. 4iG is now a key partner in the government’s strategy, not only as a telecommunications but also as a space and defense industry player.

As a new entrant, in eighth place is Tibor Pavelka, founder and owner of Semilab, who is the only completely self-made billionaire on this year’s list. The Hungarian company has become the world’s largest solar panel industry and fifth largest semiconductor industry measurement equipment manufacturer, with Microsoft, IBM and Sony among its clients.

The novelty of the Forbes 2025 ranking is that in addition to estimated wealth, the editorial team also examined the power dimension of money: the “power network” of the ten richest Hungarians was prepared based on six criteria – wealth, money-making ability, innovation, influence, transparency and the self-made factor.

The total wealth of Hungarian billionaires exceeds 9,000 billion forints, which, according to Forbes calculations, is equivalent to twice the total Hungarian state healthcare expenditure.
