Call for young farmers launched
Supporting generational change is a priority in Hungarian agriculture, as this sector cannot remain competitive without young people. One of the highlights of this is the call for non-refundable support with a budget of HUF 79 billion, for which applications can be submitted from July 16, 2025, announced József Viski, State Secretary responsible for agricultural and rural development support at the Ministry of Agriculture.

József Viski explained that under the Common Agricultural Policy, young farmers between the ages of 18 and 40 who have a state-recognized or naturalized agricultural qualification, run an agricultural holding established no more than 5 years ago, and have a holding size specified in the call can submit an application.
Similar conditions apply to young farmers’ businesses
The call includes two target areas: it supports the start-up of young farmers with 39 billion forints in the interest of generational renewal, and it helps young farmers implement their investments with a budget of 40 billion. Young farmers can apply for 14.6 million forints as start-up support, and between 10.5 million and 75 million forints to support their investments, in which case the amount of support is 70 percent of the total eligible expenditure. It is important that those concerned must apply for both target areas together. In addition to the agricultural support system – which also allows young people to benefit from additional area-based support – the renewable regulatory environment also benefits them, as the Act on the Transfer of Agricultural Farms also allows them to take over the farm from the older generation at the same time, the State Secretary said.
