Calls for tenders for irrigation development have been extended
The Ministry of Agriculture continues to treat irrigation development and the development of the water management sector as a priority area. Applications can be submitted until the extended deadline, June 30, 2023, for the calls for tenders “Development of the agricultural water management sector” and “Support for the cooperation of irrigation communities” announced within the framework of the Rural Development Program.
The call for investment support comprehensively provides development resources for all activities related to irrigation, such as for the construction of reservoirs, new water extraction works, the installation of new irrigation machines and pipelines, and the replacement of elements of outdated irrigation systems. In addition, thanks to the current amendment connected with the extension, farmers can now also request support for the purchase of machines necessary for the dredging and maintenance of canals, such as self-propelled excavators. The government also encourages the organization of producers into irrigation communities, keeping in mind the more efficient use of the available water resources. In the framework of the extended call for cooperation between irrigation communities, applications can be made for the joint operation of existing irrigation plants with a common interest and for the preparation of new irrigation investments.
In connection with the two calls for tenders, farmers have already received almost HUF 50 billion in support, and within the framework of the KAP Strategic Plan, an additional HUF 70 billion is planned to be allocated for this purpose after 2022
The goal of the ministry and the government is for the size of the irrigated areas to increase continuously and significantly in the coming years, since, as this year, which was affected by a severe drought, particularly showed, safe production can basically only be carried out under irrigated conditions. Details of the calls for tenders can be found on the website www.palyazat.gov.hu.
