Sainsbury’s Extends Trial Of Reverse Vending Machine To Scotland

UK retailer Sainsbury’s has introduced a reverse vending machine in its Braehead superstore in Glasgow.

The concept is already being tested in its stores in Lincoln and Hull.

It allows customers to return plastic bottles and drinks cans for recycling.

The trial is one of the latest initiatives by Sainsbury’s to reduce its plastic consumption.

The machine accepts plastic bottles of any size up to 3 litres as well as aluminium drinks cans.

Customers can deposit up to 500 items per visit in lieu of 5p coupons per item.

It will allow customers to redeem up to a maximum of £25 against their shopping bills.
