The Economic Competition Authority (GVH) and the National Media and Communications Authority (NMHH) have renewed a professional cooperation that lasted for nearly 20 years. The aim of the two organizations is to be able to perform their legally defined tasks more efficiently through strengthened cooperation. The presidents of the authorities agreed that the protection of consumers in the digital space is becoming more important every day. With this goal in mind, they strengthened their cooperation, one of the new areas of which is the tasks arising from the implementation of the so-called DSA regulation.

The Economic Competition Authority and the National Media and Communications Authority (or its legal predecessor, the National Communications Authority) have been carrying out enhanced professional cooperation within the framework of an agreement for nearly two decades. The document signed on July 10, 2024 replaces the agreement between the two organizations that has existed since 2013. As part of the agreement at the time, NMHH also granted GVH access to the database of advertisements appearing for the first time on TV and radio.

One of the main reasons for the renewal of cooperation was the entry into force of the European Union Digital Services Act (DSA). The regulation primarily imposes obligations on online intermediaries, such as marketplaces, social networks, app stores, and online travel and accommodation platforms. One of the primary goals of the DSA is to prevent illegal and harmful online activities, as well as the deliberate dissemination of fake news, thereby ensuring the protection of consumers in the online space. In Hungary, the NMHH is responsible for the implementation and supervision of the DSA regulation, with which the GVH works in close cooperation on issues related to competition in the digital services market, as well as on matters related to the digital services market and affecting users.
