Scope Ratings affirms Vajda-Papír’s “B+” rating
Scope Ratings has affirmed the issuer and unsecured bond ratings of Vajda-Papír Kft. at “B+”. The affirmation of the rating reflects that the financial fundamentals of the company group remain strong, while the company has launched a large-scale investment program to ensure long-term growth and competitiveness.
With a 25% share, Vajda-Papír is the leading player in the Hungarian household paper market, and its exports account for more than half of its revenues. In recent years, the normalization of input costs has helped improve profitability: the EBITDA margin was 13% in 2024.
The company will invest tens of billions of forints in strategic investments in the coming years. The main objective of the program is to increase production efficiency and automation, expand production capacity, and strengthen energy independence and sustainability.
“The goal of our investments is to strengthen our competitiveness in the long term, increase our efficiency and ensure sustainable growth by applying the most modern technologies,” said Attila Vajda, founding CEO of the Vajda-Paper Group. He also reminded that over the past 10 years, more than 40 billion forints have been spent on strengthening sustainable operations and in 2025, the company again won the “Best Managed Company” award from Deloitte, which confirms that Vajda-Papír is one of the most organized, most transparently operating and strategically best-managed companies in domestic business life.
He added that, according to Scope’s analysis, the planned investments could also strengthen the company’s future profitability, while the group of companies will remain a prominent player in the domestic and international market.
The strategic developments and the “B+” rating confirmed by Scope indicate that the Vajda-Papír Group remains a stable, growth-oriented and reliable partner for domestic and international investors, emphasized Attila Vajda.
The According to the Vajda-Papír group’s previous announcement, in the first half of 2025, net sales revenue increased by 11.8% and pre-tax profit by 17% compared to the same period of the previous year. The consolidated sales revenue of HUF 38 billion achieved in the first six months of the year, after HUF 34 billion a year earlier and EBITDA of HUF 4.1 billion, which was close to the half-year of last year, is due to the company’s efficiency-enhancing measures and its stable market presence. Consolidated pre-tax profit increased from HUF 3.2 billion in the first half of 2024 to HUF 3.7 billion. In the first half of 2025, the company sold 27,519 tons of finished goods, 16% more than a year earlier. While the domestic consumer market declined slightly (–1%), the export volume increased by 34% and public sector sales by 13%. The company aims to exceed last year’s sales revenue throughout 2025, while also increasing EBITDA.
The Vajda-Papír Group is a company with a dominant market presence in Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltics and Scandinavia, exporting its products to more than 30 countries. Vajda-Papír employs more than 700 people at the group level and has three locations in Hungary and one in Norway. With an annual production capacity of 140 thousand tons, the Hungarian family-owned Vajda-Papír produces a significant part of the domestic demand and sells 60% of its production on foreign markets. In addition to European countries, Ooops! brand products are also sold from their factories in Hungary to Asia and even the Caribbean.
