Roadkill is legal to eat in Montana
Steve Lavin has reported to hundreds off crashes that involved animals. The Roadkill Bill, he hopes, will allow Montanans to salvage good meat that would otherwise rot on the side of the road unused.
A Montana state trooper wants to clean the streets — of roadkill.
Montana's House of Representatives passed a bill last week that would permit people to salvage meat from game animals killed in traffic accidents.
Representative Steve Lavin (R-Kalispell) is the primary sponsor of House Bill 247, better known as the Roadkill Bill.
“There's a lot of good roadkill that goes to waste currently. We're just looking for something good for Montana so they can use the meat,” Lavin told the Daily News.
Lavin is a state trooper of more than 20 years who has responded to hundreds of crashes involving animals. He thought of the bill at a meeting with the Montana Highway Patrol last summer.
