The number of mini-breweries doubled in the Czech Republic
The number of mini-breweries doubled in the Czech Republic over the last three years. There are currently 215 mini breweries in the country – Jan Surán, President of the Czech-Moravian Association of the Mini-Breweries said in Prague on Thursday. Surán believes that the number of mini-breweries can increase to around 350 by the end of 2015.
According to the Czech legislation in force, those breweries can be considered as mini breweries, that are cooking up to 10 thousand hectoliters of beer per year. Under this limit, the breweries are taxed at reduced cost.
There is an increasing demand towards the beers of the mini-breweriers. 90 percent of these beers are sold in restaurants as draft beer, while ten percent is marketed in bottles. Currently, the mini-breweries brew a little over one percent of the annual Czech beer production. (Kokes János, MTI)
