Waberer’s would double its earnings by 2031
Despite the challenges, Waberer’s closed last year with record results. The company met its short-term financial targets on time and expects to double the current result in all result categories – sales, EBIT and EBITDA – in its revised medium-term strategy, said Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of the international transport and logistics service company, at a press conference in Budapest on Friday.
Waberer’s sales revenue increased by 7 percent to EUR 757 million, and EBIT (operating profit) increased by 5 percent to EUR 45 million in 2024. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) jumped above EUR 100 million for the first time in the company’s history, to EUR 102 million, 7 percent above the 2023 level. Profit after tax, calculated without the effect of exchange rates, increased by 10 percent to EUR 25 million.
The Chairman and CEO listed the main milestones of last year as the start of regional expansion in Serbia with the acquisition of MDI, Waberer’s entry into the railway logistics market – with the acquisition of PSP and GySEV Cargo – and the road passenger transport market, and the diversification of the insurance business with the acquisition of Posta Biztosítók, as well as the development of the national warehouse logistics network with the investments in Debrecen and Ecser.
Zsolt Barna noted that the Waberer’s Group is planned to be built into the leading complex logistics service provider in the Central and Eastern European region by 2027. The achievement of the goals is ensured by a diversified portfolio and continuous and balanced growth.
The company has revised its medium-term strategy and expects EBITDA exceeding EUR 220 million and EBIT of EUR 101 million in 2031 with sales of EUR 1.7 billion, which represents an increase of 124, 120 and 124 percent, respectively, compared to the actual figures for 2024. Of the approximately EUR 57 million increase in operating profit over the next six years, the integration of Posta Biztosítók will add EUR 19 million, while logistics activities will add EUR 38 million.
The company plans to invest EUR 400 million between 2025 and 2030, he announced.
Szabolcs Tóth, CEO of Waberer’s International Plc. Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Strategy Officer, presenting last year’s results by segment, said that the revenue of the transportation and forwarding (ITS) business unit increased by 1 percent to EUR 442 million, while its EBIT fell from EUR 8.9 million to EUR 1.6 million due to losses in the Polish transport subsidiary (LINK).
The revenue of the contract logistics (RCL) business unit increased by 25 percent to EUR 252 million, and its EBIT result increased by 25 percent to EUR 19.2 million, thanks to successful customer acquisitions and the Serbian MDI, as well as previously launched warehouse developments. The revenue of Waberer’s insurance business unit fell by 3 percent to EUR 80 million due to a technical effect, but the EBIT result increased by 30 percent to EUR 24.2 million, he highlighted.
He announced that this year they expect sales of close to 1 billion euros and an EBIT result of around 50 million, the former corresponding to an increase of more than 30 percent and the latter to 10 percent.
