The decrease in the number of general food stores has stopped in Hungary
The decrease in the number of general food stores lasting for one and a half decade has stopped in Hungary. According to the new census of Nielsen market research company, a total of 19,544 general food stores are operating in Hungary, while a year ago the number was 19,569.
The proportion of the traditional 200 square meters and smaller shops in the food retail network is 89 percent this year, the same as in last year. This stability is different from the last period, when the number of stores were reducing from year to year.
According to the survey, on the 1st of January 2012, the number of 50 square meters or smaller shops was 11,111. The number of stores between 51 to 200 square meters was 6,294. The number of stores remained essentially unchanged, compared to the datas of a year earlier.
