The fall in the price of beets in Poland has stopped
In Poland, the fall in beet prices has finally stopped, but prices are still extremely low. In the last five years, only in 2020 was the price of beets lower than this season. According to FruitVeB’s report, the wholesale price of beets showed a continuous decrease during June and July, while by the middle of July the price of washed, bagged items fell to a level between 0.7-1 PLN/kg (65-90 HUF/kg).
Since mid-July, however, this negative trend has stopped, and some markets have even seen some price increases. Despite this, the wholesale price of beetroot remains extremely low in Poland, which poses serious challenges for producers.
From the producers’ point of view, the situation was worse than now only in the 2020 season. Although it is difficult to predict what will happen in the near future, at current prices, it is likely that good storage lots will not appear on the market until the price level rises enough to make it worthwhile to offer the crop for sale.
The current low prices are particularly worrisome, as producers cannot cover their production costs, which could threaten the sustainability of beet cultivation in the long term. While waiting for price increases, producers must look for alternative solutions to minimize their losses and ensure their future production.
