The intermodal round table was established
In the new interest advocacy and consultation forum, sectoral civil organizations will participate, in order to promote intermodal transport, the round table covers the entire spectrum of road and rail freight transport participants.
Road and rail freight transport are primarily no longer competitors, but partners. They must work together if they want to meet the growing national economic and international transport needs in such a way that the burden on our environment does not increase to an unbearable extent and the earth’s climate does not change irreversibly. This was recognized by the organizations whose leaders signed their cooperation agreement on the creation of the intermodal round table in a ceremonial setting on December 11.
Thirteen percent of greenhouse gas emissions are also responsible for transport in Hungary. The sector’s emissions continue to grow, as the volume of passenger transport and goods transport also shows a constantly increasing trend. The government’s intention is to increase the sector’s share of the gross domestic added value from five to ten percent. At the same time, the climate goals require a reduction in emissions: the solution can only be the greenest land transport mode, increasing the share of the railway in such a way that the bulk of the goods travel on the rails. However, in order to meet the diverse transport needs, the flexibility of truck transport is needed in terms of loading onto and from the railway.
