More Hungarian products in Lidl discount stores
Lidl entered the Hungarian market in 2004 with 18 stores and in the last few years the company’s turnover has been growing by two-digit numbers. At the moment they operate 158 units and last year’s turnover amounted to HUF 186 billion. Lidl employs more than 3,200 people. Previously Lidl has been selling 810 Hungarian items and the company’s plan is to add 100 more to this (mineral water, biscuit, meat product, wine), increasing the share of Hungarian products from 54 to 60 percent by the end of 2014. Products that perform well on the Hungarian market get a chance to prove themselves in the Lidl stores of neighbouring countries. At the moment 106 products of 36 suppliers are sold in the Lidl stores of 8 countries in the region, generating export revenue of HUF 8.4 billion last year.
