Hungary’s GMO-free position must be strengthened
Hungary’s GMO-free position must be reaffirmed for the sake of food safety – urged Antal Csárdi, the deputy faction leader of the LMP, on Tuesday. At his press conference, which can also be followed online, the opposition politician announced that the LMP will initiate the adoption of a political statement in the Parliament.
Antal Csárdi pointed out that in the case of several parliamentary factions, there is no clear position on Hungary’s GMO-free status or new GMO technologies.
He recalled again that the majority of Momentum and Jobbik did not vote in the Parliament for the proposed resolution in which Hungary declares that it does not support the new pro-GMO proposal of the European Commission, which would release these products into the European market without control, eliminating the individual discretion of the member states. to market.
He noted: Momentum’s EU party family – the neoliberal and extremely pro-market – Renewable Europe is a clear supporter of the release of genetically modified products.
