Despite facing delays in preparations, the Russian discount chain Mere is expected to open its first store in Budapest, Hungary, by the end of this year, according to Világgazdaság.

The chain, established in 2009 and already operating in over twenty countries, plans an aggressive expansion in Hungary with an aim to open 200 stores in three years. Negotiations for locations in Szeged and Vác are also in advanced stages. The company’s strategy involves initially focusing on Budapest and its suburbs, with later expansions to other cities. The cost of setting up each store is estimated at around 200 million HUF (approx. USD 540,000). Mere’s arrival could shake up the local retail market, but success will depend on gaining consumer trust with quality products at low prices.
