MÁV: trains to Lake Balaton will depart more frequently in the off-season
The MÁV group is preparing for the post-season at Lake Balaton between September 1 and 21 with increased capacity and additional services. In accordance with the post-season schedule, trains will continue to depart more frequently to the shores of Lake Balaton and more seats will be available for passengers, and they will continue to provide the usual amount of bicycle transport options in the summer – the railway company told MTI.
Zsolt Hegyi, CEO of MÁV, said in a video posted on the company’s official Facebook page:
“just as students return to school, so the FLIRT and KISS diesel trains will also return to Budapest’s suburban traffic”.
He added, however, that in case of favorable weather, many people will also travel to Lake Balaton in the post-season, so they will provide a larger offer in the direction of Balaton than ever before.
When compiling the post-season schedule, they took into account that bathers are increasingly replaced by hikers and cyclists, he said.
According to a statement from MÁV, passengers can choose between the capital and the southern coast on the Balaton and Lakeside InterCity trains, as well as the southern coast InterRegions. The Balaton InterCity trains also have first-class carriages and dining cars.
After the high season, the Jégmadár express train runs only on weekends, with a modern, air-conditioned KISS double-decker train. The Bagoly trains also run between Keszthely and the Déli railway station on Friday and Saturday nights, they announced.
