It was announced during a ceremony that the first phase of the capacity increase of the LEGO® factory in Nyíregyháza, which is currently one of the most significant ongoing investments in Hungary, has been completed. Thanks to the 72,000 square meters of new facilities now under the roof, the plant’s injection molding capacity will increase by 50 percent and its packaging capacity by 25 percent. The Danish toy manufacturing company will create at least 250 new jobs in the region with an investment of around HUF 53 billion.

Symbolic completion of new buildings

The Nyíregyháza site began operations in 2014 with a production area of 120,000 square meters, which was later increased to 160,000 square meters. It currently employs more than 3,100 workers and covers the entire production process, from the raw material to the finished product. During the current investment, the production area will increase by another 50 percent, where, in addition to 386 new injection molding machines, new packaging lines will also be installed, and – among other things – a manual warehouse and administrative buildings will also be created. The framework of the buildings has now been completed, the design of the interior spaces and the installation of technology have begun. According to the plans, the new factory unit will be fully completed by 2023 and is an important part of the LEGO Group’s strategic processes to ensure long-term growth.

“LEGO bricks are made in such a way that they are durable and can be enjoyed by several generations of a family. That is why we make and pack our products using the most modern technology at all production sites of the LEGO Group – including Nyíregyháza – in compliance with the strictest safety and quality requirements of our company. Our employees with excellent professional knowledge, with whom we can also work in Hungary, play an important role in this”

Carsten Rasmussen, CEO of the LEGO Group, pointed out in relation to the investment.
