EU egg imports increased by one and a half times

According to European Commission data, EU (EU27) egg and egg product imports increased by 53 percent to 116 thousand tonnes in the first eight months of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The community’s egg and egg product exports increased by 1 percent to 244 thousand tonnes in January-August 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to European Commission data, the packing house price of table eggs in the EU was 265 euros/100 kilograms in the first eleven months of 2025, an increase of 23 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. According to KSH data, Hungary purchased 16.5 thousand tonnes of shell eggs from the international market in the first ten months of 2025 (-14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year), within which it imported 17 percent less, 13.1 thousand tonnes of fresh eggs. The export of shell eggs decreased by 4 percent to 8.6 thousand tons, of which the export of fresh eggs amounted to 2.2 thousand tons (+95 percent) between January and October 2025. According to AKI PÁIR data, the packing house price of caged table eggs (M+L) in Hungary was 64.66 HUF/piece in the first eleven months of 2025, which exceeded the average price of the same period in 2024 by 29.8 percent. The packing house price of M size-class boxed eggs increased by 28.7 percent to 67.16 HUF/piece, and that of L size-class boxed eggs by 24.0 percent to 77.09 HUF/piece. The packing house price of M trayed eggs increased by 31.5 percent to 58.84 HUF/piece, and that of L trayed eggs by 32.5 percent to 64.98 HUF/piece. The packing house price of table eggs (M+L) from deep-litter farming was 73.63 HUF/piece in the first eleven months of 2025, which is 26.3 percent higher than the average price for the same period in 2024.
