Másfélfok: we could save tens of thousands of forints a year by reducing food waste and it would even be good for the climate
By reducing food waste, several tens of thousands of forints could be saved per year, and the emission of greenhouse gases would also be reduced – wrote the specialist portal Másfélfok – Climate change in a general way in its article on Wednesday.
Meteorologist Anna Kis, scientific associate of the Department of Meteorology at Eötvös Loránd University, drew attention in her writing to the fact that in the European Union in 2020, 59 million tons of food – 131 kilograms per person – were thrown away, 53 percent of which could be attributed to households.
He added that several factors can play a role in the formation of food waste, such as improperly planned shopping and cooking, aesthetic aspects, standard portions of restaurants, in the case of catering, not correctly estimating the number of people, damage to the product or packaging, as well as quality preservation and consumption misinterpretation of dates.
