Casino announces Morocco expansion with 210 stores
French retail giant Groupe Casino has announced it wants to open 210 convenience stores under the Franprix and Monoprix banners in Morocco over the next ten years, through a partnership with a local investor.
The first stores should open next year, and should already have created 1,000 jobs by 2030, Retail Detail reported. CEO Philippe Palazzi hopes the partnership will allow Casino to “tap into Morocco’s dynamic market potential”. Customer habits are changing fast in the country, the retailer says, and Casino hopes to profit from a growing desire for convenience and “digitally enhanced shopping experiences”, the partners say in a press release.
The expansion into Morocco is part of Casino’s broader international expansion plans. The French retailer already operates in over thirty countries, with a network of 472 stores outside of continental France.
