Not enough brands
I am more and more concerned about the competitiveness of Hungarian agriculture and domestic-owned food processing companies. Recently I asked a few friends to name Hungarian-owned and developing food brands…The list did not turn out to be long, but at least it included Univer, PICK and a few others. I think that the biggest problem of the Hungarian food industry is that it is unable to develop long-running, profitable brands. Therefore, we remain to be a base-product manufacturing country. We need a clear agricultural strategy at government-level, one that designates and supports product groups and directions of production.
