In March 2026, consumer prices were 1.8 percent higher than a year earlier on average. Consumer prices rose by 0.4 percent on average in one month, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.

2025. Compared to March, food prices stagnated over the 12 months (excluding catering services, they decreased by 3.2 percent), including bakery products by 13.3, buffet products by 9.7, candy, honey and canned fish by 7.9-7.9, fresh domestic and tropical fruit by 7.5, meals out by 7.4 and ice cream by 6.6 percent.

Within the product group, the price of canned meat increased by 26.1, margarine by 24.9, potatoes by 18.5, pork fat by 18.4, butter and buttercream by 18.2, dairy products (excluding cheese) by 15.3, flour by 13.4, while milk decreased by 13.1 percent.

Services increased by 4.1 percent, including theater by 18.8, foreign holidays by 17.8, domestic holidays by 8.7, sports and museum tickets by 8.4, while personal care services and vehicle repair and maintenance by 7.8-7.8 percent.

The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 5.5 percent, including tobacco products by 7.2 percent.

Household energy by 4.3, including piped gas had to be paid 7.9 percent more, and electricity 2.4 percent more.

The price of durable consumer goods increased by 2.7 percent, including jewelry 29.1 percent, motorcycles 6.7 percent, used passenger cars 4.4 percent and room furniture 4.3 percent more.

Medicine and medical supplies became more expensive by 6.0 percent, and the price of vehicle fuel decreased by 3.0 percent – the Central Statistical Office reported.

Compared to February, consumer prices increased by an average of 0.4 percent increased. Food prices decreased by an average of 0.1 percent (excluding catering services by 0.6 percent), including ice cream by 1.3, bacon by 1.2, other meat and tea by 1.1-1.1, canned meat and buffet items by 1.0-1.0, eggs by 0.8, cooking oil by 0.3 percent, dry legumes by 3.6, butter, buttercream by 3.2, coffee (store-bought) by 2.5, lard by 2.1, dry pasta by 2.0, sugar by 1.8, preserved fruit by 1.6, pork, dairy products (excluding cheese) by 1.3-1.3, milk by 0.9, chocolate, cocoa by 0.4 percent.

The price of services increased by an average of 0.2 percent in a month, within which freight transport cost 5.5 percent more, and travel to other long-distance destinations cost 0.9 percent less.

The price of household energy stagnated, within which district heating increased by 18.4 percent, and piped gas decreased by 3.3 percent.

The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 0.2 percent, within which alcoholic beverages by 0.4 percent. The price of vehicle fuels increased by 4.6 percent, while clothing items cost 1.9 percent more, the Central Statistical Office reported.
