Starting March 31, Wizz Air will operate the Brasov-Budapest flight daily, Brasov-Vidombak International Airport announced on Monday.

The Brasov airport, which also serves the Szeklerland, wrote on its Facebook page that the low-cost airline will fly from the Transylvanian city to the Hungarian capital every day of the week, instead of the current four times a week, starting March 31.

Wizz Air launched its flight on July 2, 2024 the flight between Budapest and Brasov, which quickly became one of the most popular flights at the airport near the Szekler Land. Since last October, the frequency has been increased from the previous three flights a week to four a week.

The southern Transylvanian airport announced on Monday that it will also launch a flight to Rome with three weekly departures from January 28. From June 1, the flight to Nuremberg will also operate more frequently, six times a week.

Adrian Vestea, the president of the Brasov County Municipality, which maintains the Brasov-Vidombák International Airport, announced at the beginning of January that the newest Transylvanian airport increased its passenger traffic by 48 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, registering 337,353 passengers last year. He emphasized that the operators are starting 2026 with confidence, because the Brasov facility has fulfilled the hopes attached to it: the number of passengers is constantly increasing, and the expansion continues.

Brasov-Vidombác International Airport opened in June 2023 as the first airport in Romania to be implemented as a greenfield investment after the change of regime. Its establishment was also supported by the Székely region’s local governments, emphasizing that this will also include the Hungarian region in the international cycle. The operators expect one million passengers per year in the medium term.
