There is already an airline with dogs
In many families, the dog is not just a pet, but a real family member who is not forgotten even after his death. Therefore, more and more owners decide to travel with their pet. However, in order to have a smooth holiday together, many preparations are necessary. Veterinarian Marie Jury lists in detail what to pay attention to if you don’t want to leave your dog at home in an article in the Swedish tourism magazine alltomresor.se.
Preparations before the trip
The first and most important step is to find out about the rules of the particular means of transport. Regulations may vary by airline, train or shipping company. We check whether the dog is registered, has a passport and is healthy. The vet recommends that we think carefully about what is best for our dog: is it safe for him to travel, or would it be better to leave him at a boarding house or dog sitter.
Vaccinations and identification
An EU passport is required for the dog to travel within the European Union, and some countries may also impose special requirements. The rules for traveling outside the EU are different, so it is worth checking in advance with the embassy of the destination country, as well as with the countries you are traveling through. It is important that the dog has all the necessary vaccinations and is protected against ticks and other parasites.
Choosing the right means of transport
It is not recommended to feed the dog immediately before the car journey, especially on the first trip, as we do not know how it will react to the speed of the car. Take care of your dog’s safety during your trip: always use a crash-tested and approved dog crate, the type and size of which may vary by airline. Use a seat belt for him in the car as well, and pay attention to the ventilation.
