Kifli.hu customers have already exchanged more than 2 million beverage packaging with the company’s home-delivery service. Since the introduction of the return system, more and more customers have taken advantage of the opportunity to return empty beverage packaging to the circular economy. The country’s most popular online supermarket launched its return service on August 1, 2024, which allows customers to simply return beverage bottles and cans to couriers from their homes. AA Kifli.hu customers have so far exchanged a total of 2.1 million bottles in this way, for which they received more than 106 million forints in credit.
The company’s redemption process is simple and fast: all bottles with an official 50-forint label can be redeemed, regardless of where they were purchased. The bottles handed over during the order are received by the couriers, recorded in the system, and the appropriate amount of redeemable credit is immediately credited to the customer’s account. The customer only has to notify the courier of the need upon delivery. From now on, the couriers will also ask the customer whether the customer wishes to take advantage of the opportunity during each delivery.
Nearly 50 thousand Kifli.hu customers redeem 11 thousand bottles or cans per month, 85 percent of the collected packaging is plastic or aluminum, and 15 percent is glass. The collected bottles are processed by MOHU’s mobile redemption units. Kifli.hu wants to further increase the efficiency of redemption in the future, which is why it is installing its own processing machine.
