Many foods are already cheaper than a year ago
According to the analysts of MBH Bank’s Agricultural and Food Business, there was a serious change in food prices in October 2023. “It seems that the quarterly price increase, which is considered usual in the trade, has not been increased, and in fact, the price of several food products has decreased, not only on a monthly basis, but now also on an annual basis. There are products that we can take home from the shops cheaper not only compared to September this year, but also compared to October 2022,” they concluded, evaluating the food inflation data published by the Central Statistical Office on Friday.
Overall, food cost 10.4 percent more than last October.
“However, we were able to buy milk, dairy products, eggs and fats cheaper than a year before”
– pointed out Csaba Héjja, senior analyst of MBH Bank’s Agricultural and Food Business, adding that the price of eggs and flour also decreased significantly. The former is 17 and the latter almost 15 percent cheaper than a year ago.
“This is also remarkable because last October flour was a price-stop product, so it could be bought at a fixed price at the October 2021 level. In other words, the price of flour is not only lower than last year, but also lower than two years ago”
he highlighted.
