Bird flu has already appeared in the county of Somogy
This time, the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) confirmed the presence of the highly pathogenic bird flu virus in the area of Somogy County. The affected stock has already been liquidated.
The farm with approximately 39,000 fattening turkeys is located in the Kaposvár settlement in Somogy county, where the livestock keeper experienced an increased mortality rate. Nébih’s laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus in samples taken from dead animals. The epidemiological investigation to reveal the causes is still ongoing, but at the same time, the liquidation of the stock, which had already begun based on suspicion, has also been completed. In accordance with the rules, the epidemiologists designated a 3 km radius protection zone around the affected farm, and also defined a 10 km radius surveillance (observation) zone.
The case in question also proves that the highly pathogenic bird flu virus can appear anywhere in the country
If the epidemiological situation is favorable overall, the authority can soon lift the restrictions in most of the country in the areas that are currently still under them. However, it should be taken into account that the disease is still scattered in our country.
In order to protect against infection, full compliance with epidemiological regulations will continue to be of prime importance
Animal keepers must do everything possible to ensure that their poultry does not come into direct or indirect contact with wild birds.
